Seat Exeo 2009: Black smoke and loss of power - looking for advice and experience
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Seat Exeo with a gasoline engine is experiencing black smoke from the exhaust, a check engine light, engine stalling, loss of power, jerking during acceleration, and poor fuel consumption. These issues may be related to problems with the turbocharger and EGR valve, as similar symptoms were resolved in another vehicle by addressing these components. It is suggested to consult a knowledgeable mechanic to inspect and potentially replace the turbocharger and EGR valve to restore the car's performance.

Hey, thanks for the quick and helpful reply, Buddy. It's good to know that I'm not the only one with problems like this. Your story with the turbocharger and EGR valve already gives me some insight. Would be nice if you could remember how much the repair cost your buddy? As you know, I don't like surprises when it comes to repair costs. And were there any other problems afterwards or has your Ibiza been running smoothly ever since? Your support is really appreciated, thank you!

Hello again! Glad to hear my first reply was helpful. So, to answer your question, the cost to fix the faulty cable/plug was €95, which wasn't too painful. And you know what the big deal is? Since the mechanic fixed the fault in the fuel composition, my Ibiza has been running like a dream - no juddering, no smoke, no sputtering lights. Simply great! There you go again - sometimes it pays to invest a little money in good mechanics. I'll keep my fingers crossed that things go just as well with your Exeo! Keep us up to date here.

It sounds really encouraging that your Ibiza is now running like a dream. Your information is really worth its weight in gold. 95 would of course be bearable if it helps my old one to get back in shape. I'll take your advice to heart, find a competent mechanic and have the turbocharger and EGR valve checked! Thank you again for your support and I'll keep you posted on how things are going with my Exeo. Keep your chin up and take good care of yourself! See you soon, buddy!

Hi buddy, I hope I can help you. I had similar problems with my Seat Ibiza from 2012, gasoline engine and with about 150,000 km mileage. The engine ran erratically, sometimes it would stall at traffic lights and the black smoke from the exhaust... Man, I know exactly what you mean! I'm very familiar with the engine control malfunction you describe. The check engine light was on almost all the time and it was really stressful. The problem with my Ibiza was ultimately the turbocharger and the EGR valve. Both had to be replaced, which was a serious problem. Obviously a lot of exhaust residue had built up over the years, which was causing the problems. A friend of mine (a mechanic) then did it for me. So, if your problem is similar, you need to find someone who knows about turbochargers and EGR valves. I hope my experience helps you. I send you good vibes and hope that your Exeo will soon be running smoothly again!
