Seat Exeo check engine light and fuel consumption problem

My 2013 Seat Exeo with a gasoline engine, with 163721 km, has a problem. The check engine light keeps popping up, and I've noticed a significant increase in fuel consumption. I suspect it might be related to the VANOS system, specifically the inlet VANOS mechanics. From what I've read, it could be a defect in one of the camshaft solenoid valves or a power supply issue. I understand VANOS is a variable valve timing system, but I'm not sure how to proceed. Has anyone experienced something similar? I'm trying to avoid a huge repair bill, as I read it could cost around 250€ to repair a VANOS solenoid. I'm getting no engine misfire that I can notice.

I had a similar issue with my Exeo. Check engine light and poor fuel economy. It could be the VANOS solenoid. Have you checked that?

Thanks for the quick reply! You mention the VANOS solenoid. Was it difficult to diagnose? And was it just faulty, or were there other things contributing to the problem?

It was fairly straightforward. The error code pointed directly to the VANOS solenoid. In my case, it was just a faulty solenoid. I would recommend taking it to a workshop to confirm the diagnosis and get it replaced. It's likely the inlet camshaft VANOS solenoid if that is the error code you are getting.

Just wanted to say thanks. I took the Exeo to a workshop, and you were right. It was the VANOS solenoid on the inlet camshaft. They replaced it, the check engine light is off, and the fuel consumption is back to normal.
