Yes, I did notice a hissing sound, now that you mention it! Where was the issue in your case? Was it definitely the EGR valve? And if so, what did you do? Did you try cleaning it, or did you end up replacing it?

For me, all signs pointed towards the EGR valve, and yes, that's precisely what it was. Given the symptoms you're describing – the reduced power, rough engine running, smoke, check engine, and that hissing sound – it's highly probable that your EGR valve is defective/jammed too. I wouldn't recommend trying to clean it yourself; it's a fiddly job and might not solve the problem in the long run. Honestly, I'd suggest taking it to a reputable workshop to have it properly diagnosed and replaced. It's the most reliable solution to ensure proper vehicle emissions.

Thank you so much for your input! It was indeed the EGR valve. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it. After replacement, the car runs like new and vehicle emissions are back to normal. Cost me around 355€. No more rough idle or jerking when accelerating!

That sounds awfully familiar! I had similar issues with my Exeo. Did you notice any loud hissing when accelerating, almost like a vacuum leak? The check engine light was driving me crazy. Have you checked for error codes?
