Seat Exeo Diesel Oil Pressure Issue

My 2008 Seat Exeo, diesel engine, is giving me trouble. Mileage is around 180000 km. The oil pressure warning lamp comes on, and I can hear some loud mechanical noises from the engine. I suspect it might be the oil pump. Any ideas?

Low oil pressure on a diesel is never good. I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane, although it was petrol. First, have you checked the engine oil level? Also, when was the last time you changed the oil and oil filter? A clogged oil filter can sometimes cause low oil pressure. Any signs of oil leakage?

Oil level is fine. Oil and filter were changed about 8000 km ago. No visible oil leakage. What was the problem with your Megane in the end?

For me, it turned out to be oil pump failure. Given the symptoms you describe, warning light and noises, plus no obvious oil leakage, it does sound like the oil pump. To be sure, you'd need to check the actual oil pressure with a gauge. If it is the pump I wouldn't drive it until it's fixed. Best get it to a workshop.

Took the Exeo to the workshop. It was the oil pump. New pump installed, plus oil and filter change. Cost 755€. Thanks for the advice!
