Seat Exeo Diesel Power Loss and Hissing Sound

My 2013 Seat Exeo diesel is playing up. It's lost power, runs rough, and jerks when I accelerate. Plus, there's a loud hissing sound under acceleration and my fuel consumption has increased. I reckon it's something to do with the intake manifold flap control, but I'm not entirely sure. Anyone had similar issues?

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Seat Exeo diesel experienced power loss, rough running, jerking during acceleration, and a loud hissing sound, with increased fuel consumption. The initial suspicion was an issue with the intake manifold flap control. A professional assessment confirmed this diagnosis, and after repair, the vehicle's performance returned to normal, resolving the hissing and jerking issues.

I see you are experiencing issues with your Seat Exeo. I once faced a similar predicament with my Seat Leon. The symptoms you describe suggest a fault within the intake system, specifically concerning flap control. Have you inspected the linkage to the swirl flaps? These are known to become detached or seize. Could you elaborate on any diagnostic procedures conducted, including any fault codes retrieved from the engine control unit?

Cheers for the quick response! I haven't checked the swirl flap linkage myself. I'm pretty handy, but I don't have the gear to properly diagnose it. Regarding fault codes, I had a generic OBD2 reader plugged in, and it flagged something about 'intake manifold flap control problem' – nothing more specific than that. Where exactly are these swirl flaps located, and is it something I could realistically check myself without specialist tools?

Based on the fault code and your description, it does indeed seem the intake manifold flap control is the most likely culprit. While you could potentially inspect the linkage, given the potential complexity and the need for specialized tools for a comprehensive diagnosis, I would advise against attempting a repair without adequate expertise. Continuing to operate the vehicle in its current state could exacerbate the problem, potentially leading to more extensive damage. Therefore, my recommendation would be to seek a professional assessment from a qualified mechanic to ascertain the precise nature of the fault and proceed with the appropriate remedial actions.

Huge thanks for the advice I received! The garage confirmed it was the intake manifold flap control. Cost me 465€ to get it sorted, but the Exeo is running great again. No more hissing or jerking!
