Seat Exeo Engine Problem

Hi, hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I've got a 2011 Seat Exeo with a gasoline engine. Recently, the check engine light came on, and the engine feels like it's lost a lot of power. It's also idling rough and drinking more fuel. I can hear a whistling noise, almost like a loud hissing when I accelerate. Could this be a turbo issue, maybe the wastegate valve? I am getting some serious turbo lag too. Any ideas?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Exeo. Check engine light, power loss, the whole shebang. Did you check the MAP sensor or the throttle body? Those can sometimes cause similar problems.

How did you figure out it was the wastegate? Was it obvious when you checked it?

Well, I didn't diagnose it myself, to be honest. I'm no mechanic. But yeah, I experienced a whistling noise and power loss, and eventually the mechanic said it was the wastegate valve on the turbocharger. Could be worth getting it checked out by a professional. Is it worth risking further damage by trying to fix it yourself?

Just wanted to say thanks for the advice. Took it to a mechanic, and you were spot on. Wastegate valve was the culprit. Cost me 860€ to fix, but at least it's running properly again.
