Seat Exeo rough running and stalling issue

Alright, so I'm having a real headache with my 2011 Seat Exeo (gasoline engine). It's got 109613 km on the clock, and recently it's started running really rough. It starts poorly, and the engine stalls at idle sometimes. Plus, the check engine light is on, naturally. I'm suspecting it's the camshaft sensor, possibly the encoder wheel on the camshafts themselves. Anyone experienced something similar? I'm trying to get an idea of what I'm in for.

Whoa, sounds rough. I had a similar issue with my Exeo a while back. Car stalling, check engine light blazing – the whole shebang! Engine misfire is a nightmare, right? Did you check the camshaft position sensor? Because that's what caused my car to act like a bucking bronco. Could also mess with the ignition timing. Any codes being thrown that point to that sensor?

Camshaft position sensor, huh? I've heard that mentioned. Where exactly is that located, and is it something I could potentially check myself before throwing in the towel and taking it to a mechanic? I'm reasonably handy, but car electrics aren't my strong suit.

Yep, sounds exactly like what happened to me. It's like the engine control unit is getting scrambled signals. I wouldn't advise messing with it yourself unless you're really confident. A faulty encoder wheel could also be the culprit, and that's not a simple fix. Honestly, I'd get it to a decent workshop. They'll be able to diagnose it properly and sort it out. You don't want to cause more damage, trust me!

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. It was the camshaft sensor. They replaced it, and the car is running perfectly now. Total cost was 695€, but at least it's fixed.
