Seat Formentor Active Hood Fault

I've got a head-scratcher. My 2021 Seat Formentor with a gasoline engine is throwing an "Active hood fault" message on the on-board computer. The airbag warning lamp is also lit up in the speedometer, and I've confirmed there's an error stored in the error memory. It seems the spring actuators for the active hood have been triggered. I suspect a defective acceleration sensor could be the culprit, but I'm open to suggestions. Has anyone else run into this car electronics issue?

I had a similar issue with my Formentor. The active hood fault message popped up along with the airbag warning light. From what you describe it sounds like a system fault. Did you check the impact sensor? That can trigger the active hood mechanism unnecessarily.

Interesting Where exactly is that impact sensor located, and is there any way to test it without specialized equipment?

Yes, the impact sensor is indeed the likely cause. Unfortunately, it's not easily testable without diagnostics. The sensor provides input to the airbag control unit, and when it detects an issue it can trigger the active hood. It's best to get it checked by a workshop to avoid further complications with the pedestrian safety system.

Took the Formentor to the workshop, and you were right. The acceleration sensor was faulty. They replaced it, cleared the error codes, and everything's back to normal. Total cost was 315€, annoying but at least the car safety system is working again. Thanks a lot for your help!
