Seat Formentor Camshaft Position Sensor Problem

Alright, car gurus, I'm hoping someone can lend some insight. My 2020 Seat Formentor with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. It's got 118446 km on the clock. Lately, it's been starting poorly, and I've noticed a definite reduction in engine power. Plugged in my OBD reader, and it's throwing a camshaft position sensor error. I've read that a likely cause is a defective cable or plug connection, which seems plausible. I'm getting rough idling and suspect possible engine misfire. I'm trying to avoid replacing the sensor if it's just a wiring issue since the projected repair cost is around 95€. Anyone experience similar camshaft position or crankshaft sensor issues and have any tips on diagnosing the wiring

I had similar symptoms with my Formentor. Rough idling and the check engine light were on. Check the cable and plug connection to the camshaft position sensor before replacing it. Could save you some money.

Thanks for the quick response When you say 'check the cable,' what exactly did you look for Any specific signs of damage or corrosion I should be aware of

Corrosion or a loose connection are prime suspects. Unplug it and visually inspect the pins inside the connector and the wiring leading to it. If the cable is fine, probably better take it to the workshop before further damage to the engine

You were spot on I checked the camshaft position sensor cable and the plug looked corroded. Cleaned it up, cleared the error code, and the Formentor is running like new again. Saved me a ton of money Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
