You mention fuel contamination. How would I check for that? And if it is contaminated, is it something I can fix myself, or is it a workshop job?

The symptoms do sound very familiar. Considering the error message, the defective plug connection is a strong possibility. As for fuel contamination, it's tricky to diagnose without proper tools. Is it a DIY job? Probably not, unless you have experience with fuel systems. Honestly, at this point, wouldn't it be wise to take it to a workshop? They can properly diagnose the issue and prevent further damage. It's worth the peace of mind, don't you think?

Took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. They found a defective plug connection on the fuel filter heater. 95€ later, and it's running like new. Thanks for the help!

Interesting problem you're having there. I drive a Seat Formentor as well, though it's not a diesel. Had similar symptoms once: reduced power, rough idling. Have you considered that the fuel filter itself might be the culprit? When was the last time you did a filter replacement? And what about the fuel system in general? Is there any chance of contamination?
