Seat Formentor diesel power loss and smoke

I'm having a proper headache with my 2021 Seat Formentor diesel. Lately, it's been feeling sluggish, like it's lost a good chunk of its power. And to top it off, I'm seeing smoke when I accelerate, which is definitely not ideal. Could this be a defective diesel particulate filter? I'm wondering if it will pass the vehicle inspection in this condition. Anyone else experienced this, or have any thoughts on what the cause might be? It's killing my fuel efficiency, that's for sure.

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Seat Formentor diesel is experiencing power loss and smoke during acceleration, raising concerns about passing vehicle inspection and affecting fuel efficiency. The issue is suspected to be a defective diesel particulate filter, which can cause these symptoms. It is suggested to check for backpressure and ensure proper regeneration frequency, as a clogged filter often leads to these problems. Ultimately, replacing the diesel particulate filter resolves the issue, restoring the car's performance.

Reduced power and smoke? Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Seat Ateca (diesel too). Have you checked the backpressure? A clogged diesel filter often causes that. Is the regeneration happening frequently?

Backpressure? How would I even check that? And how often should the regeneration be happening?

Checking backpressure requires diagnostic tools, so probably best left to a workshop. As for regeneration frequency, it depends on driving conditions. But excessive regeneration along with those symptoms points to a blocked diesel filter. Before replacing it, confirm it's not a sensor issue causing incorrect readings. But yeah, sounds like a defective diesel filter. A new diesel filter is probably needed.

Thanks for the insight! Took it to the shop and you were spot on – diesel particulate filter was indeed the culprit. Cost me 1550€ to replace. At least the car runs like new again.
