Seat Formentor Engine Issue

Thanks for the quick reply. The error code I pulled was P0335, which points to the crankshaft position sensor. If the timing chain skipped a tooth, wouldn't I expect to see other related codes or hear some unusual noises? What exactly should I be looking for to rule out the timing chain?

P0335 definitely screams crankshaft sensor. If the timing chain jumped, you'd likely get misfire codes too. Still, at that mileage, a stretched timing chain isn't out of the question, especially if oil changes weren't always on time. Check the sensor wiring harness for damage first. Honestly, though, with those symptoms, I'd get it to a workshop and have them scope it out. Best not to risk further damage.

The defective crankshaft sensor was indeed the problem. Replaced it at a cost of 340€. Runs like new. Thanks for your insight, I really appreciate it.

Whoa, that sounds rough. Crankshaft to camshaft reference value – are you seeing any specific error codes? Did this happen suddenly, or did you notice performance degrading over time? Could be a timing chain issue too if it's jumped a tooth, though the sensor is definitely the first place to look.
