Seat Formentor hybrid brake issue
Summary of the thread
A 2022 Seat Formentor hybrid is experiencing a brake fluid level warning light and an unusual brake pedal feel. The low fluid level could be due to worn brake pads, which require more fluid as the caliper pistons extend further, or a potential leak in the hydraulic brake system. The recommended solution is to inspect the brake pads for wear and check for any leaks in the brake lines or master cylinder, with prompt attention advised to ensure safety.

Yes, I experienced a similar spongy feel in the brake pedal, and the warning light was also on. By 'hydraulic brakes', I simply mean that the braking system uses fluid to transmit the force from your foot on the pedal to the brake calipers at the wheels. Given the symptoms and the warning light, I'd advise getting it checked sooner rather than later. It's best to err on the side of caution when it comes to brakes.

Thanks for the quick response! That's really helpful. When you say 'similar issue', was the brake pedal also feeling weird? And did you also get the warning light? I'm trying to gauge how urgently I need to get this looked at. Also, what do you mean by hydraulic brakes?

I took my Formentor to the workshop. It turns out the brake pads were quite worn, causing the brake fluid level to drop. New pads and a fluid replacement later, the issue is resolved! The whole thing cost me 480€.

Strange brake pedal feel and a low fluid warning light definitely warrant investigation. I had a similar issue with my Seat Ateca. Have you checked your brake pads for wear? As they wear down, the pistons in the calipers have to extend further, which uses more fluid from the reservoir, hence the low level. It could also be a leak in the hydraulic brakes system, like in the brake lines or even the master cylinder.
