Interesting. Did you see any specific fault codes related to the cooling system or fan motor when you scanned it? I'm trying to narrow down if it's the fan motor itself or something upstream like the ECU.

I didn't scan for codes myself, I took it straight to the workshop as I was concerned about causing further damage. Given your expertise, if you suspect a wiring or connection issue, it might be worth checking the continuity of the fan motor circuit and the integrity of the plug. But honestly, for the sake of time and potential further problems, a visit to a workshop might be the most efficient route.

Appreciate the insight. Turns out it was a dodgy connector on the fan motor harness, as suspected. 95€ at the shop and she's engine cooling again.

I had a similar overheating problem with my Formentor. The engine cooling fan wasn't kicking in when it should have, especially in traffic. Have you checked the fan motor relay and the temperature control sensor? A faulty sensor can cause the fan to not engage, leading to overheating.
