That's interesting! Did your Astra also have a coolant leak, or maybe you noticed the cooling fan running more than usual? I've been trying to pinpoint exactly what's going on before I take it to a mechanic, you know? Want to be prepared!

Yep, the coolant level was dropping slowly, and I topped it up a few times. The mechanic said it was a small leak from the thermostat housing itself. Honestly, just take it to a workshop. Thermostat issues can cause serious damage if you keep driving it. Better safe than sorry!

Just got the Seat back from the shop. You were spot on! It was indeed the thermostat housing. Total cost was 360€ including labor and new coolant. Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience – really helped me prepare for the worst (and the best!).

Sounds like what happened with my old Vauxhall Astra a few years back. Exact same symptoms: engine overheating, slow to warm up, the whole shebang. I didn't check the thermostat myself, I'm not that skilled. Is the cooling fan running non-stop, even when the engine is cold?
