Software glitch, huh? Interesting thought. And the battery voltage... how would I even go about checking that? Is that something I can do myself, or am I looking at a trip to the workshop?

Well, in my case, the Ateca exhibited similar symptoms, and it turned out to be a battery issue. The electronics in these cars are rather sensitive to voltage drops. I'd suggest getting the battery properly tested at a workshop before diving into more complex defroster repair procedures. It could save you a lot of time and money.

Just wanted to close the loop. Took it to the shop, and you were spot on! Battery was indeed the culprit. New battery installed, and the rear window heater is working perfectly again. Cost me 290€. Thanks for your help!

That's a rather odd one! I've got a Seat Ateca, same brand, and I recall experiencing a similar heating issue last winter. Could it be related to a software glitch perhaps? Have you checked the battery's voltage?
