Seat Ibiza ABS Fault

Alright, car gurus, I'm officially pulling my hair out. My 2013 Seat Ibiza with a diesel engine is throwing a proper hissy fit. The ABS light is constantly on, and the ABS system is clearly not working. Scary stuff. I'm thinking it's got something to do with the electronic control unit, as it seems defective. Anyone had this happen before? Any ideas before I end up selling a kidney to afford the repair? I saw an estimate of 1000€ to fix it!

Whoa, ABS light is never good. Sounds like a similar issue I had with my old Peugeot. The stability control went bonkers, and it turned out to be the yaw rate sensor playing up. Did you get a diagnostic scan done? That's usually the first step to pinpoint the problem.

Interesting, stability control going bonkers... yeah that sounds about right. A diagnostic scan, you say? Is that something I can do myself or is it best left to the pros?

Definitely get a diagnostic scan. Some garages offer it for free or a small fee. It'll read the error codes stored in the system. In my case, with the Peugeot, the scan pointed directly to the yaw rate sensor. Replacing that fixed the traction control fault and all the warning lights went away. If the scan confirms a sensor issue, you'll know where to focus. Otherwise you could be chasing shadows. In my case it was an easy fix but in yours, it might require a workshop.

Just wanted to say thanks again for your help. Dropped the Ibiza at the local garage this morning and they ran a diagnostic scan like you suggested. Turns out the lateral acceleration sensor, part of the ABS unit, is cactus. Quoted around 1000€ for the repair. Ouch, but hey, at least I know what's up. Really appreciate you sharing your experience!
