Seat Ibiza Diesel Particulate Filter Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Seat Ibiza diesel is experiencing a 'diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure too low' warning, reduced engine power, and excessive smoke with a strong exhaust smell. The initial suspicion is a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor, as the DPF soot levels are normal. After replacing the sensor, the issue is resolved.

Thanks for the quick reply! A clogged DPF was my first thought too, but I ran diagnostics and the soot accumulation is within normal parameters. Plus, the pressure reading is consistently low, even when the engine is cold. Did you also check the pressure sensor when troubleshooting your Megane?

Consistent low pressure readings do point towards the sensor itself. I didn't check the sensor directly on the Megane. I was a bit of a novice back then and took it straight to the workshop. They identified a similar issue. I'd suggest getting the sensor checked or replaced. Hopefully, that resolves it!

Took the Ibiza to the workshop. It was the exhaust back pressure sensor. Replaced it, and the issue is resolved. Cost 245€.

Low exhaust pressure on a diesel particulate filter? Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my old Renault Megane. Same symptoms: emission control light, reduced power, the works. Are you sure it's not the DPF itself? They can get clogged up.
