Alternator output? How would I go about checking that? Is it something I can do myself, or is it best left to a professional?

Checking the alternator needs a multimeter and some know-how to avoid shocks, so best left to a workshop if you're not comfortable. But yeah, my issue turned out to be alternator failure – the voltage regulator went bad, causing high voltage and eventually draining the battery. They mentioned something about circuit protection kicking in too. Get it checked ASAP to prevent more damage.

It was the battery, heavily discharged as suspected. They also found a defective voltage regulator, which was causing the overvoltage and draining the battery. Total cost was 290€. Thanks again for the help!

Sounds like a similar issue I had with my Ibiza. Lots of weird electrical problems, right? The high voltage could be frying things. Have you checked the alternator output? A faulty voltage regulator can cause a power surge.
