Seat Ibiza Engine Issues

I'm stressed. My 2022 Seat Ibiza with a gasoline engine is playing up. It's struggling to start, stalls at idle, and the check engine light is on. Plugged in an OBD reader and it's flagging a faulty camshaft sensor. Has this happened to anyone else? Could it be something else?

Whoa, sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my old Peugeot a while back. Check engine light was on, and the engine was acting all kinds of weird. Did you check the crankshaft sensor too? Sometimes a faulty crankshaft sensor can mess with the ignition timing and cause similar issues like stalling and poor starts.

Cheers for the quick reply! Interesting you mention the crankshaft sensor. I was kinda focusing on the camshaft position sensor 'cause of the error code. How would a dodgy crankshaft sensor cause the same symptoms? Is there a way to test it without just throwing parts at it?

Yeah, the crankshaft and camshaft sensors work together. The ECU uses both to figure out the exact position of the pistons and valves for correct ignition timing. If the crankshaft sensor is sending dodgy info, it can screw up the whole process and mimic camshaft sensor problems. Honestly, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They'll be able to properly diagnose it. I ended up doing that after checking fuses and some basic wiring, and it turned out to be the best move. Don't want to mess with the ignition timing yourself!

So, it WAS the camshaft sensor. Or, the encoder wheel ON the camshaft was faulty, which is apparently common. Anyway, got it fixed, cost me 695€ all in. Runs like a dream now! Thanks for the advice, really appreciate you steering me in the right direction!
