Seat Ibiza power loss after chip tuning

I am writing to seek some advice regarding an issue with my Seat Ibiza, built in 2000, which has a gasoline engine. Recently, I've noticed a significant reduction in engine power, and the check engine light on the dashboard is illuminated. After running vehicle diagnostics, a fault code was detected. I suspect the issue may be caused by a faulty chip tuning, as a third-party provider installed it some time ago. Could this be the problem?

Thank you for your reply. The fault code isn't very specific, unfortunately. It just indicates a general engine fault. The mechanic seemed to think it's likely related to the chip tuning messing with the car computer. Is this what you experienced as well?

Given that your Ibiza has aftermarket chip tuning, I strongly recommend taking it to a workshop that specializes in this. I followed the advice and went to a local mechanic familiar with chip tuning. They confirmed the issue was related to the aftermarket chip. They reflashed the ECU with the original software and it seems to have solved the problem. The check engine light is now off, and the power is back to normal.
