Seat Ibiza Stiff Steering

I'm experiencing some issues with my 2001 Seat Ibiza (gasoline engine) with 191471 km on the clock. The steering has become noticeably harder, almost like the power steering is failing intermittently. I've also noticed the steering wheel vibrating at times. Could a defective steering angle sensor be the cause? I've read online that a faulty angle sensor can affect traction control and cause alignment problems. The steering column feels a bit strange too. Could this be sensor failure?

I had a similar issue with my Ibiza, though I didn't have alignment problems. Did you check if the angle sensor is properly connected? Maybe it just came loose?

Where exactly is the angle sensor located? Is it something I can check myself, or do I need special tools?

It's somewhere near the steering column, but honestly, I wouldn't mess with it too much without proper tools or knowledge. I tried tinkering with mine and almost made it worse. My guess is that the coding is faulty. If you are having shaking issues, go to a workshop, the sensor could be defective.

Took my Ibiza to a mechanic and they confirmed it was a faulty steering angle sensor. The coding was indeed the problem. They recoded it and now the steering is back to normal! Cost me 195€.
