Seat Inca brake lights issue

Alright, I'm officially stumped. My 2000 Seat Inca with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. The brake lights aren't working, and I'm getting an error message on the infotainment system about it. Plus, there's an error stored in the error memory. I'm thinking it's the brake switch, but I'm not entirely sure. Could it be something else, or am I on the right track?

Summary of the thread

A 2000 Seat Inca owner faced an issue with non-functioning brake lights and an error message on the infotainment system. Suspecting the brake switch as the cause, they sought advice on whether it could be something else. After receiving guidance, they discovered the brake switch had been dislodged during previous work. Re-securing the switch resolved the issue, clearing the error message and restoring the brake lights without any cost.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Oh, I think I had something similar happen with my Inca! Though I can't remember the exact year. I was getting weird electrical issues all over the place, especially with the tail lights. Did you check the brake switch itself? Sometimes they can get a bit wonky, causing the brake light to fail and throwing up errors.

Thanks for the tip! Where exactly is the brake switch located? I'm not the most experienced with car electrics, so any pointers would be appreciated. Is it easy to get to, or do I need to remove a bunch of stuff?

Yeah, it's probably the brake switch. It's usually located near the brake pedal assembly. You might have to contort yourself a bit to get a good look at it. Honestly, if you're not comfortable poking around, it might be worth taking it to a workshop. They can diagnose it properly and replace the brake switch if needed. Could be an electrical issue, but hopefully not!

You're a lifesaver! Turns out, I was being a bit of a klutz. I somehow managed to dislodge the brake switch a bit when I was routing some wires a while back and didn't notice. Pushed it back in, and everything is working perfectly now. Error message gone, brake lights are shining bright, and the error memory is clear. 0€ repair! Thanks again for the help!
