Seat Inca check engine light and power loss

I'm scratching my head here. My 2001 Seat Inca with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. The check engine light is on, it stalls at idle sometimes, and the engine power is definitely reduced. I suspect it might be the fuel volume regulator and that the high pressure pump is defective. Has anyone seen something similar? Any pointers before I start tearing things apart? It feels like a fuel injection problem, but I'm not getting any obvious engine misfire codes.

Sounds familiar! I had similar check engine issues, stalling and power loss with my Inca. Have you checked the fuel injection system? For me it was a faulty car sensor related to the fuel supply. Could be the culprit causing rough idling. Might be worth a look!

Interesting. When you say 'sensor related to the fuel supply', do you remember which one specifically? And did you also experience engine misfire at any point?

Yep, exact same symptoms – check engine light, rough idling, the works. It turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator sensor. If that's gone bad, it can mess with the fuel injection and cause all sorts of problems with air fuel ratio. Honestly, I'd suggest getting it checked by a workshop with proper diagnostic tools. Saved me a lot of time and headache!

It was the fuel volume regulator as I thought. The high pressure pump was defective, so I had it replaced. It cost 1510€ total. Thanks for the help.
