Seat Inca Diesel Engine Power Loss and Smoke
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Seat Inca diesel is experiencing significant power loss and emitting smoke, particularly during acceleration. The suspected cause is a defective diesel particulate filter, which can lead to increased backpressure and reduced fuel efficiency. A professional inspection confirmed the issue, and replacing the filter resolved the problem.

Backpressure, huh? How did you check that, and what were your fuel efficiency issues exactly? Also, did you notice any difference in how the engine sounded?

Yeah, the backpressure test needs special equipment, so I had a mechanic check it. My fuel efficiency dropped by about 20%, and the engine did sound a bit rougher, like it was struggling. Honestly, after all that, I'd recommend getting it checked by a professional. Could save you a lot of headaches.

Thanks for the help. I took it to a mechanic, and you were right, it was a defective diesel filter. The vehicle inspection confirmed it. Cost me around 1550€ to get it sorted. Appreciate the insights!

Oh, that sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Inca (diesel too) a while back. Reduced engine power and smoke pouring out when I put my foot down. The engine light was on constantly, and my fuel efficiency went down the drain! Have you checked the backpressure? It might be the diesel filter.
