Seat Inca Diesel Immobilizer Problem

I'm starting to pull my hair out here. My 2003 Seat Inca diesel is giving me grief. It's got about 167675 km on the clock. The problem seems to be the car immobilizer. Sometimes the engine won't start at all, other times it starts for a second and then cuts out. I've checked the error memory, and there's definitely an error stored related to the immobilizer. I'm suspecting it's a key programming issue. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas before I start messing with the car electronics too much?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar immobilizer issue with my Inca. Does the security light blink or stay on when you try to start it?

Yes, the security light does blink rapidly when I try to start. Was that the same symptom you experienced? Did you also notice any issues with the remote start, or any stored error codes related to the car immobilizer or car electronics?

Yep, blinking security light was exactly what I saw. Remote start didn't work either. I wouldn't mess with it too much yourself. Best bet is to get it to a workshop that can do key programming. They'll sort out the car immobilizer issue in no time.

Took your advice and went to a workshop with the right key programming tools. Turns out, the key programming was indeed the culprit. They recoded the key, and now my Inca is running smoothly again. The whole thing cost me 45€. Thanks a lot for your help!
