Seat Inca electronic parking brake problem

My 2001 Seat Inca, gasoline engine, has decided to throw a proper wobbly. The electronic parking brake is completely dead. Nada. Zip. The warning light is blazing on the dash, and there's an error logged in the error memory. I'm suspecting a defective electric motor in the brake calliper, but before I start ripping things apart, has anyone else wrestled with this demon? I've done some brake diagnostics, and all signs point to the motor, but confirmation would be grand.

Whoa, electronic parking brake issues are a pain! I had a similar problem with my Renault Megane a while back. The symptoms sound almost identical: error light, no handbrake function. Did you check the brake switch or the brake sensor? Could be a faulty connection or a busted sensor throwing everything off. Have you hooked it up to a code reader to see what error codes pop up? That helped me narrow it down on my Megane.

Interesting, so what exactly was the problem with your Megane? Was it also the motor, or something else? And what kind of codes did you pull? I've got the error memory info; it's pointing towards the rear brake calliper, but I'm trying to be thorough before I drop serious cash.

Yeah, mine ended up being the motor as well. The codes pointed to a general failure in the parking brake system, and after some fiddling, it became clear the motor was shot. Honestly, unless you're seriously confident with electrics and calliper rebuilds, I'd suggest biting the bullet and getting a garage to sort it. It's a fiddly job, and you don't want to mess with your brakes!

Just picked it up from the garage. 505€ lighter, but the electronic parking brake is working perfectly again. They confirmed it was a defective electric motor in the brake calliper, just like we suspected. Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience; it really helped me prepare for the diagnosis and the cost. Cheers!
