Seat Inca Transmission Fault

My 2002 Seat Inca with a diesel engine is playing up. The engine warning light keeps coming on, and sometimes the transmission light too. I'm getting an error stored saying there's a fault with the transmission oil pressure sensor. It feels like the gearbox is in emergency mode sometimes, like it's stuck. It also slips and doesn't shift smoothly, and I hear grinding noises when shifting gears. I've read that low oil level can cause these issues. Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

That sounds familiar. I had similar transmission issues with my Inca, although mine is older. Grinding noises, slipping gears, the whole deal. I would check your gearbox oil level first. From your description, it really points to low oil. Could the pressure gauge itself be faulty? Are you certain it's throwing the code because of the pressure sensor itself?

Where did you check the oil level exactly? And if it is low, is it an easy top-up, or will I need to visit a garage? I am not sure about the pressure gauge, but the error code points to that sensor. I thought the sensor itself might be faulty.

On mine, checking the level was a bit fiddly. I needed a special tool, a long funnel thing. Even adding oil was awkward. If you're not confident, get a garage to look at it. It sounds like you have the exact same symptoms. It could be the sensor, but get the oil level checked first. If that doesn't solve it, then fair enough. But it’s probably the culprit. If it is, then you'll need to fix the leak!

The garage visit confirmed low oil level was the root cause of the pressure issue. Draining, flushing, and refilling the oil set me back 365€, but at least it's resolved. Thanks for the assistance!
