Seat Leon brake light issue

I'm experiencing some issues with my 2010 Seat Leon with a gasoline engine. The car has about 114381 km on it. I'm getting an error message on the infotainment system, the brake lights aren't working, and the error memory shows a fault related to the brake light switch. Could this be a sign of a faulty switch, or might there be another reason? I'm hoping it's not a bigger issue that affects vehicle safety.

Summary of the thread

The issue with the 2010 Seat Leon involved a brake light malfunction and an error message related to the brake light switch. The problem was likely caused by a dislodged brake light switch, which was confirmed when the owner realized they had accidentally knocked it loose while working in the footwell. After reseating the switch until it clicked, the error message disappeared, and the brake lights functioned properly again.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my Volvo a while back. Error message, no brake lights, the whole thing. Have you checked the brake light switch itself? Sometimes they can be a bit temperamental. Does the error appear immediately when you start the car, or only when you press the brake pedal?

Thanks for the quick reply! Where is the brake light switch located exactly? Is it something I can check myself, or would I need special tools or knowledge? Is it like checking a fuse, or is switch replacement more complicated?

On my Volvo, the brake light switch was located right above the brake pedal, in the footwell. It's usually a small plastic thing. It's not too complicated, but if you're not comfortable working in tight spaces, it might be worth taking it to a workshop. It's possible you dislodged it somehow. A simple switch replacement shouldn't be too expensive, but it's worth visually inspecting it first. Otherwise a new switch may be needed but you'd need to get it to a workshop to check.

It turns out I caused the problem. I had been fiddling around in the footwell and knocked the brake light switch loose. I pushed it back in until it clicked, and everything is working now. The error message is gone, and all the tail lights are working. Thanks for the help!
