Seat Leon electric steering column issue
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Seat Leon diesel has an issue with the electric steering column adjustment, which is not functioning and storing a fault in the error memory. The workshop suspects a defective cable or plug connection as the cause. A similar problem in another vehicle was resolved by checking fuses, relays, and wiring, leading to the discovery of a faulty connection. The issue was ultimately fixed by addressing a defective plug connection, resolving the adjustment problem.

Interesting. You mentioned a defective control module. Was that diagnosed via error codes, or was there some other way to pinpoint it? I'm wondering if the Leon's issue could be similar. Did you also get the 'cable or plug connection defective' hint?

The error codes pointed towards the steering column module, but further diagnosis revealed it was a faulty connection. Before replacing any expensive components, I recommend having the wiring thoroughly checked by a qualified technician. A simple continuity test can often identify the culprit. If the wiring checks out, then a faulty module becomes more probable, and you should visit the workshop.

It was indeed a defective plug connection, just like you suspected. 95€ later, the adjustment issue is resolved. Thanks a lot for your help!

I had a similar electric steering problem with my BMW 3 Series a while ago. The error memory also showed a fault, and the steering column wouldn't adjust. Have you checked the relevant fuses and relays? Sometimes it's a simple fix before diving into more complex diagnostics. In my case, it wasn't the fuse, but the control module. Was the mechanical fault of the steering ruled out?
