Seat Leon FR estate engine indicator light on
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A Seat Leon FR estate from 2011 is experiencing issues such as black smoke during acceleration, reduced engine power, uneven running, jerking, and poorer fuel consumption, with the check engine light on. The suspected cause is a faulty lambda sensor heater. It is advised to read the fault memory to confirm the issue and ensure both the engine control unit and lambda sensor are checked to avoid overlooking potential problems.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply. My Leon now has a proud 113245 km on the clock and I'm actually pretty conscientious when it comes to inspections. It was last in the garage four months ago and everything was still in the green zone. It's crazy what car repairs cost these days. I'll take your tip to heart and have the fault memory read out. Thanks again for the tip!

Hey, no problem, I know that all too well! Our little runabouts like to go crazy, despite regular inspections. Your Leon has already experienced quite a lot with its 113k km. Such quirks can crop up from time to time. Make sure that not only the engine control unit but also the lambda sensor is checked when reading out faults. In my Ibiza, an error in the catalytic converter was overlooked during the first readout, which almost cost me a new engine. It's annoying when you invest so much money and then something is overlooked. Unfortunately, you always have to keep a close eye on the people in the workshops. My experience tells me that it's better to ask several times. Take good care of your runabout and I'll keep my fingers crossed that it won't be too expensive. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Hey, thanks for the valuable advice. It sounds like you've already had a few adventures with your garage. Making sure that not only the engine control unit is checked but also the lambda sensor is a good tip, I probably wouldn't have had that in mind at all. Yes, I'll stick to it and keep a close eye on the people there to make sure nothing is overlooked. Your experience really helps me and I will report here what I end up with. Thanks again and I hope I don't get too deep in my pocket! See you then!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my Seat Ibiza, built in 2013. I'm not an expert, I have a mediocre knowledge of cars. My garage read out the error and then said: "Engine control unit defective". That cost me just under 1000 euros, quite expensive, but I bit the bullet because I can't do without it. It would be helpful if you could tell us how many kilometers your Leon has already covered and whether you go for regular inspections. That could help us to make better suggestions. Hope that helps you a little.
