Interesting thought about the air intake! I've had similar issues with other vehicles. When you say contaminated, what exactly does that mean? Is it just dirt, or is there something else that could be causing it? Is there any way to clean the air valve without replacing it?

Contaminated air intake typically refers to a buildup of dirt, oil residue, and carbon deposits. These deposits can restrict airflow and disrupt the IAC valve's operation, leading to idle speed problems and stalling. While cleaning the IAC valve is possible, heavily contaminated intake manifolds often require professional cleaning or replacement. I would recommend taking your car to a workshop for a diagnosis.

Just wanted to say the garage confirmed your suspicions. The air intake was completely gunked up, just like you said. They replaced the IAC valve and cleaned everything. Cost me 425€, but the stalling engine is gone and the check engine light is off! Thanks again for your help!

The stalling engine and check engine light definitely point towards an idle air control issue. Has the idle speed been erratic before the stalling started? A contaminated air intake is a common cause, especially with hybrid engines where they spend a lot of time at idle.
