Seat Leon rough running and check engine light

My 2007 Seat Leon with a gasoline engine is giving me some grief. The check engine light popped on, and I've noticed a drop in engine power. Also, the engine is running rough. I ran a car diagnostics and it's pointing towards a faulty intake air temperature sensor. Seems like the likely cause. Anyone else experienced this?

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same thing happen with my Leon. Check engine light, felt like I was towing a boat anchor, and the engine idled rough. It was the IAT sensor for me too! Have you run car diagnostics yet? What does the temperature reading look like?

Yeah, I did a car diagnostics scan and it pointed towards the IAT sensor. The temperature reading seems off. Was yours throwing the same error code? And did you replace the IAT sensor yourself, or did you take it to a workshop?

Yep, it was the IAT sensor for sure. Think of it like this: the engine is trying to figure out how much fuel to mix with the air, but the 'thermometer' is broken, giving it a crazy temperature reading. I didn't feel comfortable messing with the sensor myself. I'd suggest getting it checked out at a workshop; they'll sort it out in no time.

I took it to the shop as you suggested. The IAT sensor was indeed faulty. They replaced it, cleared the error memory, and now the Leon is running smoothly again. Total cost was around 155€.
