Interesting! When you say 'tested', what exactly does that involve? I mean, can they tell for sure if the camshaft sensor is the culprit, or is it more of a guessing game? And what was the issue with your car? Was it just the sensor, or something else?

Yep, they can definitely test the camshaft sensor properly. They use an oscilloscope to check the signal it's sending to the engine control unit. If the signal is erratic or missing, that's a pretty good sign the sensor is toast. In my case, the sensor itself was faulty, as the car stalling issue got progressively worse. But honestly, based on your description, it sounds like you're dealing with the same gremlins. I'd recommend taking it to a trusted mechanic to be sure. Better safe than sorry, especially with engine problems!

Okay, thanks for the help! I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it was the camshaft sensor. They said the encoder wheel on the camshaft was faulty, causing the sensor to give bad readings. Cost me 695€, but at least it's running smoothly again. They told me that if I had waited longer, it could have damaged the engine control unit, so I am glad I brought my car in when I did!

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Leon. Check engine light, car stalling at idle, the whole nine yards. First thing I'd suggest is getting the camshaft sensor tested. Also, have them check the crankshaft sensor while they're at it. Sometimes those two play together, creating all sorts of havoc!
