Seat Leon start stop error after the vehicle battery has been replaced

Hi everyone, my Seat Leon, built in 2012 with a gasoline engine, suddenly has several problems: The car won't start, fuel consumption is high, a warning light in the speedometer comes on and the lights flicker or are dimmed. I suspect it is the engine start-stop system. Has anyone had similar experiences and can tell me how you solved the problem in the workshop? Thank you for your help!

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Seat Leon with a gasoline engine is experiencing issues such as failure to start, high fuel consumption, a warning light, and flickering lights, suspected to be related to the engine start-stop system. A similar case with a 2014 Seat Ibiza was resolved by replacing a defective control unit, which addressed the symptoms. It is suggested to check the control unit, battery, and alternator, as these components might be interconnected and could be causing the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2014 Seat Ibiza. I don't have much experience with cars, but maybe my experience will help you. In my case, the control unit was defective and this led to exactly the same symptoms as yours: Problems starting, high fuel consumption, warning light on and flickering lights. I went to my garage and they replaced the control unit. It cost me 1000 euros, but after that the problem was completely solved. Which model, what mileage and which engine (1.2, 1.4, etc.) do you have exactly? Then I might be able to help you more precisely. Best regards!

Hi, thanks for the tip! Mine is a 2012 Seat Leon with a gasoline engine and has 105432 km on it. It's good to know that it was the control unit in your case - sounds kind of logical given the symptoms. The costs are high, but if it helps... I'll ask my garage about the control unit. Best regards!

Hey, no problem, you're welcome! In my case, the battery was no longer charging properly. Perhaps you have a similar problem. In my case, the workshop measured the entire electronics and identified the control unit. I would also recommend having the battery and alternator checked. Sometimes such problems are connected. Hope that helps you a bit. Let us know what your garage says! Best wishes and good luck!

Hi, thanks for the tip! I'll definitely have the battery and alternator checked when I go to the garage. It's always good to have a few pointers before heading there. I'll let you know what they say. Thanks again for your support! Best regards!
