Seat Mii Electric Steering Problem

I am experiencing an issue with my Seat Mii, build year 2020, electric engine, mileage 121016 km. The electric steering column adjustment is defective. Symptoms include an error stored in the error memory, and the steering column can no longer be adjusted electrically. The likely cause, according to initial diagnostics, is a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Summary of the thread

The Seat Mii, build year 2020, experienced an issue with its electric steering column adjustment, which was defective and stored an error in the memory. Initial diagnostics suggested a defective cable or plug connection as the likely cause. A similar issue was noted by another owner, who recommended checking the fuses and suggested that the problem might be related to the steering column adjustment motor or its wiring. Ultimately, the problem was resolved at a workshop, confirming a defective cable connection as the cause.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I have a Seat Mii too, though I'm not sure about the year. I had a similar steering issue a while back. By 'electric steering' I guess you mean the power steering, which is electrically assisted. Does the steering wheel feel heavier than usual? The problem might be related to the steering column adjustment motor or its wiring. I would inspect the fuses first before thinking about a mechanical fault. It could be something simple.

Thank you for your reply. When you say 'steering column adjustment motor', where exactly is that located? Is it something I can easily access, or do I need special tools?

Yes, it was a similar problem, and in my case, I couldn't adjust the steering wheel anymore. I wouldn't recommend trying to get to the motor yourself unless you really know what you're doing. You might accidentally trigger the airbag, or damage some other part. It is located behind the steering wheel, under the steering column covers. If the error memory says it's a cable, most likely you need to disassemble some parts to get to the motor and its plug. I would suggest visiting a workshop. It's probably a loose connector, but they will need to check it professionally.

Thank you for the information. I followed your advice and had the car checked at the workshop. The error memory pointed to a defective cable connection, just as suspected. Repair cost was 95€. Everything is working fine again.
