Seat Tarraco Air Conditioning Failure

Okay, I'm officially losing my cool (pun intended!). My 2021 Seat Tarraco hybrid has decided that air conditioning is optional. The A/C system just doesn't switch on! I'm getting absolutely zero cold air and to top it all off there's an error chilling in the memory. I'm thinking maybe it is a belt tensioner problem because I can hear some strange noises from the engine. Any ideas before I end up selling a kidney to pay for repairs? Could this air conditioning drama be something simple, like a fuse? Or maybe something with the AC relay?

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Seat Tarraco hybrid experienced an air conditioning failure, with the system not switching on and an error present in the memory. The issue was suspected to be related to a belt tensioner or possibly a simple electrical problem like a fuse or AC relay. After considering the possibility of an undervoltage issue affecting the AC relay, the problem was resolved by replacing the relay and checking the belt tensioner, restoring the air conditioning to full functionality.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my old Audi A4. The air conditioning would just randomly cut out. Error code pointed to the A/C system as well. Have you checked the AC relay switch? On my car, it was a known issue. Worth a look, especially given it's an electrical gremlin sort of problem. Maybe there's a faulty relay related to the A/C compressor in your Tarraco too. Have you scanned for any error codes related to low voltage specifically?

AC relay switch, eh? I hadn't thought about that. Where exactly is that located? And would undervoltage really cause the compressor to just shut off completely? It's weird, the air conditioning was working perfectly one minute, then nothing the next.

Yep, undervoltage can definitely cause the A/C compressor to shut down as a safety measure. The AC relay is usually in the fuse box, but its exact location varies from car to car. The handbook should show its position. Given the 'undervoltage' error and sudden failure, I'd really suspect the relay. To be honest, electrical issues can be a pain to diagnose without the right tools. Since you've got an error code already, might be worth taking it to a decent workshop. They can properly test the A/C system and pinpoint the problem quickly. But ask to check the AC relay first.

Wow, 240€ is a steal! Thanks a million for sharing your experience. I took it to my usual guy, and it turned out to be exactly what you said – undervoltage. He swapped out the AC relay, checked the belt tensioner 'cause it was looking a bit tired, and now the air conditioning is blowing colder than ever. Feeling super relieved and ready for summer!
