Seat Tarraco Check Engine Light Coolant Issue

Need some advice. My 2022 Seat Tarraco with a Gasoline engine is giving me some grief. The check engine light popped on, and after scanning, it's showing a 'coolant level too low' error. The car has 62200 km on it. I checked the coolant reservoir, and it is indeed a bit low. Topped it off, but the light is still there. Could this be more than just needing a bit of coolant? I'm thinking maybe a coolant leak somewhere, or could it be the water pump? Any ideas?

Low coolant can definitely trigger a check engine light. Common causes are leaks, a faulty water pump, or even engine overheating. I had a similar issue with my previous Volvo, though it was a coolant leak from one of the radiator hoses. Have you checked for any visible leaks around the engine bay, especially near the coolant reservoir and water pump?

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say 'radiator hoses', where exactly should I be looking? I'm not super familiar with the cooling system layout. Also, could a faulty coolant level sensor itself cause the check engine light to come on, even if the coolant level isn't actually low?

Yes, a faulty coolant level sensor can trigger the light, even if the level is fine. The radiator hoses are the thick rubber hoses connecting the radiator to the engine. Look for any signs of coolant (usually a green or pinkish residue) around the hose connections. Given the error code and the light staying on, it's best to have it checked by a workshop. They can properly diagnose the issue and check the sensor's wiring.

Just wanted to let you know, the shop found a defective cable to the coolant level sensor. They replaced it, cleared the error, and the check engine light is gone. Cost me 95€, thanks for the help!
