Seat Tarraco Diesel Engine Power Loss and Smoke

I'm getting increasingly frustrated with my 2023 Seat Tarraco (diesel engine). It's done 119800 km, and recently, I've noticed a significant reduction in engine power, especially when going uphill. Additionally, there's noticeable smoke coming from the exhaust when I accelerate. From what I've researched, it seems like a defective diesel particulate filter could be the culprit. Has anyone experienced something similar? Any advice on diagnosing or resolving this issue before I'm forced into a costly filter replacement?

I also own a Tarraco, and your issue sounds very familiar. I had similar symptoms a while ago: reduced engine power and some smoke when accelerating. Have you checked the backpressure in the exhaust system? That could be a good indicator of a clogged diesel filter.

That's interesting. How exactly did you check the backpressure? And did you try DPF cleaning before resorting to a complete diesel filter replacement?

I didn't check the backpressure myself, a mechanic did that for me. And no, I didn't try DPF cleaning. The mechanic advised me that with the mileage on my car, a filter replacement would be the more reliable and long-term solution. Based on your symptoms, I would recommend taking it to a workshop to get a proper diagnosis of the exhaust system.

Thank you for sharing your experience! It helped me understand what was going on. I took it to the workshop and, as suspected, the diesel particulate filter was indeed defective. After filter replacement, the car is running smoothly again. It cost me 1550€, but at least the problem is solved.
