Seat Tarraco Diesel Water Sensor Issue

I'm experiencing a rather annoying issue with my 2020 Seat Tarraco diesel. The malfunction indicator lamp keeps illuminating, and I've noticed some rough running, especially at idle. Plugged it into a code reader, and it's flagging a water sensor malfunction. Mileage is currently at 149372 km. From what I've gathered, it could be an electrical fault, possibly with the cable or plug connection of the component defective. Has anyone encountered something similar? I'm trying to avoid replacing the whole sensor unnecessarily, especially if it's just a sensor issue or simple connection problem.

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Seat Tarraco diesel owner experienced a malfunction indicator lamp and rough idling, with a code reader indicating a water sensor malfunction. The issue was suspected to be an electrical fault, possibly with the sensor's cable or plug connection. After consulting with others who had similar issues, it was suggested to inspect the connector for damage or corrosion. Ultimately, the problem was resolved by replacing the faulty connector and cleaning the contacts, eliminating the need for a full sensor replacement.

I had a similar problem with my Tarraco, although it was a while ago. Check engine light and rough running, sounds familiar. Was it throwing any specific codes related to the moisture sensor? Have you checked the sensor's connector for any obvious damage or corrosion?

Yeah, it was throwing a code related to the water sensor malfunction. I did check the connector visually, but couldn't see anything obvious like broken wires. Could be some corrosion I missed, I suppose. Did your issue involve completely replacing the sensor, or was it just a wiring problem?

In my case, it was indeed just the wiring. The mechanic suspected a corroded connector. If the code points specifically to the moisture sensor, and you've already checked for visible damage, it might be worth having a professional take a closer look. I know replacing car sensors can be expensive, but chasing an electrical fault can be a nightmare. Good luck, I hope you get it sorted without a huge bill!

You were spot on. I took it to the workshop, and it turned out to be a faulty connection on the water sensor. They replaced the connector and cleaned the contacts. Total cost was 95€. Check engine light is gone, and the engine runs smoothly again. Thanks for your help!
