Interesting analogy! So, with your Megane, did the vehicle diagnostics also point to the back pressure sensor? What exactly was happening?

Yep, the diagnostics pointed directly at the back pressure sensor. Basically, the car went into limp mode and the engine felt like it was suffocating. If your DPF isn't regenerating either, it's probably the same issue. I'd suggest getting it checked by a workshop ASAP.

The back pressure sensor was indeed the culprit. Replacement cost 245€. Thanks for sharing your experience; it really helped point me in the right direction.

Whoa, sounds rough! Had something similar happen with my old Renault Megane, although it wasn't chucking out smoke. Is it like when your garden hose gets a kink and the pressure builds up?
