Seat Tarraco transmission problem

I'm experiencing some unwelcome transmission issues with my 2019 Seat Tarraco (gasoline engine). The engine warning light keeps popping up, and the error memory points to a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. Sometimes, the gearbox goes into emergency mode, and I've noticed the gearbox slipping and shifting uncleanly, even some grinding noises when shifting gears. Could this be linked to overheating problems? I was thinking about replacing the temperature sensor myself but now I am not so sure.

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Seat Tarraco owner reported transmission issues, including an engine warning light and gearbox problems, potentially linked to a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. Symptoms included slipping, unclean shifting, and grinding noises, possibly due to overheating. The suggested solution was to check the transmission oil level, which was confirmed to be low by a mechanic. The mechanic also replaced the faulty sensor, resolving the issues and restoring smooth gear shifts.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar. I also own a Tarraco and had similar transmission issues a while back. Engine light was on, and the gear shifting was rough. Did you check the transmission oil level? I'm no expert, but that's where I'd start investigating when experiencing these symptoms.

Interesting. I haven't checked the oil level yet. Where is the dipstick located, or is there a specific procedure for checking it on the Tarraco? Is it possible to do it without specialized tools? Also, I'm wondering if you had the same transmission issues I am having - grinding noises?

On my Tarraco, there isn't a dipstick for the transmission fluid. Checking it properly requires getting underneath the car and removing a plug – not something easily done at home. Considering the grinding noises, I'd strongly advise against driving it too much and would suggest a visit to a workshop as soon as possible, especially given that you are already having gear shifting problems.

Just wanted to close the loop on this. Took it to a trusted mechanic, and you were spot on. Turns out the transmission oil level was indeed low. They also replaced the faulty temperature sensor while they were at it. Total cost was 365€. Shifts are smooth again, no more emergency mode. Thanks for the pointers!
