Seat Toledo air conditioning and temperature sensor issue

I'm having a weird problem with my 2008 Seat Toledo diesel. The error memory shows a bad temperature sensor on the heat exchanger. This also causes an error on the speedometer, and the air conditioning won't turn on. Could it be a bad air conditioning control unit, or should I focus on the temperature sensor like the codes say? Mileage is 140262 km.

I had something similar with my Toledo. That temperature sensor can cause those symptoms. Air conditioning not starting is a big clue. Any coolant leaks around the heat exchanger? Did you try calibrating the sensor?

I checked for coolant leaks, nothing obvious. Sensor calibration, can I do that with a regular OBD2 scanner or do I need special tools? What do you mean by 'sensor calibration' exactly?

By sensor calibration, I mean resetting the sensor's readings to give the ECU correct data. Some better scanners can do it, but most generic OBD2 ones can't. Since you have several symptoms, and the error code points to that sensor, I'd suggest a workshop. It could save you time and a wrong diagnosis.

Closing this out, it was the heat exchanger temperature sensor. Replacement, system flush, and recharge sorted it. Air conditioning is back. Total cost was 980€. Thanks for the help.
