Seat Toledo Diesel Engine Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Seat Toledo with a diesel engine is experiencing reduced power, poor response, and increased fuel consumption, with the check engine light on. The diagnostic tool indicates a 'crankshaft to camshaft reference value' issue, suggesting a possible defective crankshaft sensor. While the timing chain could also be a factor, the focus is on the sensor. Delaying repair could risk further damage, particularly to the timing chain. After replacing the faulty crank sensor, the engine light issue was resolved, and performance improved.

Thank you for your input. Battery voltage is fine. Regarding unusual noises, I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary during startup. When you experienced this issue on your Megane, did the diagnostic tool also point specifically to the crankshaft sensor, or was it a more general error code?

In my case, the diagnostic tool indicated a correlation error between the crankshaft and camshaft positions, leading the mechanics to suspect the crank sensor. It's advisable to consult a workshop to confirm the diagnosis. Driving with this issue can potentially cause further damage, particularly to the timing chain. It's like running with a twisted ankle; it might seem manageable initially, but can lead to more significant problems down the line.

I took the Toledo to the workshop. The crank sensor was faulty, as suspected. They replaced it, ran diagnostics, and the engine light is now off. Performance is back to normal, and fuel consumption seems to have improved. The total cost was 340€. Thank you for sharing your experience; it helped me prepare for the diagnosis.

That sounds similar to an issue I had with my old Renault Megane. The engine light illuminated, and the car felt sluggish. Have you checked the basics, such as the battery voltage and condition of the wiring to the crank sensor? It's like checking the foundation of a house before inspecting the roof. Was there any unusual noise when starting the engine?
