Seat Toledo Diesel Preheating Issue

I am experiencing a problem with my Seat Toledo built in 2001 with a diesel engine The preheating lamp does not switch off and the check engine light comes on Additionally I notice smoke when accelerating I suspect the preheating control unit is defective I think the likely cause is a defective cable or plug connection of the component Has anyone experienced a similar issue What was your experience with replacing the heating module or vehicle heater unit Any help is greatly appreciated

Summary of the thread

A 2001 Seat Toledo with a diesel engine is experiencing issues with the preheating lamp not switching off, the check engine light coming on, and smoke during acceleration. The suspected cause is a defective preheating control unit or faulty cable or plug connections. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the preheating unit, and it is recommended to have the vehicle checked at a workshop.

I am pretty sure I had the same problem with my Toledo also diesel The preheating lamp stayed on and the engine light illuminated shortly after It’s likely a defective part in the preheating unit or as you suspect a faulty connection Has the engine performance been affected In my case I noticed some smoke during acceleration

Yes the engine performance is affected When accelerating smoke comes out You mentioned that the engine light illuminated shortly after Did you notice a decrease in performance before that

Yes that sounds very similar to my experience The engine light did come on a bit after the initial lamp issue and the smoke definitely pointed to a problem with the engine preheat system not working correctly Given your symptoms and the mileage checking the cable is a good starting point but honestly you are probably facing a defective part like the preheating unit itself I'd recommend getting it checked at a workshop My repair cost was around 95€ so it shouldn't break the bank

Excellent I will proceed with the replacement as you suggested And 95€ seems like a fair price Thank you again for your help
