Seat Toledo diesel refusing to start immobilizer issue

My 2016 Seat Toledo with a diesel engine is refusing to start. It sometimes cranks, but then dies immediately. Other times, it refuses to even try. I've got an error stored related to the immobilizer. I'm thinking it's a key programming problem. Any ideas what could be causing this, or if there's something simple I'm missing?

Sounds frustrating. If the security light is flashing or staying on, that points to the anti-theft system. Have you tried your spare key? That would rule out a faulty key. It sounds like an immobilizer fault, hopefully not a deeper ignition control issue.

I did try the spare key, but it's doing the same thing. Security light is acting weird sometimes it flashes rapidly, sometimes it stays solid. Is there anything else I can check before taking it to a workshop? I'm trying to avoid a huge bill.

Security light flashing or solid with starting issues after trying both keys points to a deeper immobilizer fault. It's beyond simple fixes. Corrupted key programming is likely. You'll need someone with the right diagnostic tools to recode the key to the car's immobilizer. I suggest you visit a workshop, they should be able to fix it quickly.

Took it to a local guy with the right software. Key programming was corrupted. He recoded the key, cleared the error, and it's running perfectly. Cost me 45€, a huge relief. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
