Seat Toledo engine issue
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Seat Toledo experienced reduced power and an illuminated engine management light, suggesting a stored error. The issue was likely linked to a fault code, possibly due to previous chip tuning that affected the car's computer. A scan tool was recommended to read the fault code, either by purchasing one or visiting a garage. The problem was resolved by a garage re-flashing the car's computer, restoring proper engine function.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm a bit of a novice with car computers. Is a scan tool something I can buy, or is it a garage job? And how do I interpret the fault code?

You can buy a basic scan tool online. They plug into the car and read the fault codes. But if you're not comfortable, take it to a garage. They'll have professional diagnostic equipment and know how to interpret the codes properly. Someone had messed with my engine's computer, trying to get more power, and it screwed things up. Sounds like you might have a similar situation given the symptoms.

Just to let you know, you were right. The local garage used a scan tool which showed a fault code linked to the car computer. Apparently the previous owner had some chip tuning done which caused issues. They re-flashed it, and now it runs great. It was 180€, but worth it to get my Toledo back. Thanks again.

I had a similar engine issue with my Toledo. Reduced power and a diagnostic code. Have you tried using a scan tool to read the fault code? That'll give you a starting point. A fault code or diagnostic code tells you what's wrong. Knowing the code is key.
