Fuel injection was mentioned during the initial inspection, but I am unsure of the specifics. What aspects of the fuel injection system should I be considering? Is there a particular car sensor that commonly fails in these situations?

Indeed, in my case, the issue stemmed from the high pressure fuel pump. The symptoms appear consistent. Given your description, I suggest having a workshop examine the fuel volume regulator and the high pressure pump. This will confirm the diagnosis.

I appreciate you confirming my suspicions. The workshop diagnosed a defective fuel volume regulator and a faulty high pressure pump. The repair cost 1510€. It seems excessive, but at least the car is running smoothly again.

That sounds frustrating. I had a similar issue with my Volvo some time ago. Was the fuel injection system checked? Did you experience any rough idling before the check engine light illuminated? Have you observed any change in fuel economy?
