Engine knock on a Toledo, huh? Sounds familiar! I had something similar happen with mine – same jerking and power loss. Did you check the knock sensor? Could be faulty. Also, what kind of smoke are you seeing? Blueish, blackish, whitish?

The smoke is blackish. I haven't checked the knock sensor yet, but I will. What was the eventual problem with your Toledo?

Blackish smoke points to rich running – too much fuel. Mine turned out to be carbon buildup in the cylinder heads causing pre-ignition. I tried some engine tuning additives but no luck. In the end, I had to get the heads cleaned. Honestly, I'd get it checked out by someone who knows their stuff. Could save you a headache.

Thanks for the confirmation and advice. I took it to a workshop and they confirmed deposits in the combustion chamber. They cleaned it, and now it runs smoothly. Total cost was 425€.
