Seat Toledo Oil Level Sensor Error

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2002 Seat Toledo, gasoline engine, with approximately 70992 km on the clock. The speedometer displays an error message related to the oil level sensor, and an error code is stored in the error memory. Furthermore, the oil pressure warning lamp illuminates intermittently. I suspect it's a sensor issue, perhaps a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone encountered something similar? Any advice on troubleshooting before I potentially spend 95€ on a repair?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, although it was a diesel. The oil signal was all over the place. First thing I'd check, and you seem to be on the right track, is the sensor connection itself. Is it clean? Any corrosion? Also, have you checked the wiring for any damage? A multimeter might be handy to test for continuity.

Thanks for the insight! When you say 'continuity', could you elaborate a bit? What exactly should I be looking for with the multimeter? I've used one before, but I'm not entirely sure what readings would indicate a problem in this particular case.

Right, so, continuity means the electrical circuit is complete. No breaks in the wire. Set your multimeter to the continuity setting (usually a diode symbol). Put one probe on one end of the wire and the other probe on the other end. If you get a beep or a reading close to zero ohms, the wire is good. If you get no beep or a very high resistance reading, the wire is broken somewhere. Given your symptoms, and the fact that the oil pressure light is also coming on, I'd strongly suspect a wiring issue near the oil level sensor. However, proceed with caution and perhaps consider a visit to a workshop.

Took it to the workshop, and it was a defective cable/plug connection to the oil level sensor, just as suspected. The bill came to 95€, which is what I expected. Thanks again for the help!
